regarding Meg Baird-
I don't have to say much about what a special thing it is to have Meg playing here in LA again... Last she played here in town was in November 2013. (Unless - you caught her new band Heron Oblivion -with Noel Harmonson of Comets on Fire - at the Fonda Theater last month) In June of this year she released a new album on Drag City, "Don't Weigh Down the Light"

from the New York Times:
"What you’ve got with Meg Baird’s “Don’t Weigh Down the Light” is a true post-folk record, dyed in the acoustic sound of the English and Californian folk movements of the late 1960s and early ’70s, but not particularly scholarly or eccentric. It isn’t waving its hands around to make itself distinct or to signal an act of reclamation or defiance. It has its own grace and discipline."

regarding Johnny Young-
Talented Chicago-based guitarist in the style of Robbie Basho or John Fahey. Johnny has a new cassette out via the Voyager Golden Records label from Portland, OR. Joyful fingerstyle guitar with lap steel slide parts thrown in. He is currently touring with a violin player and a percussionist.

regarding Emmett Kelly-
Emmett Kelly is a guitarist and songwriter from Van Nuys, California. He has contributed vocal and instrumental work to a variety of international musical projects, appearing on recordings by the likes of Bonnie "Prince" Billy, Azita, Joan of Arc, Angel Olsen, John Webster Johns, Jeff Harms, Matteah Baim, among others. Kelly has toured in several of the aforementioned acts in addition to with Sonny Smith, Baby Dee, Beth Orton, and Terry Reid; and in other instances, performed live with Scott Tuma, Joan of Arc, and Pillars and Tongues. His main focus is his band the Cairo Gang.

The Besant Lodge theater was originally built as the first independent silent movie cinema in LA. It was used for film screenings amongst the creators of early Hollywood films; and then also, for a phase, as a fully functioning silent movie cinema open to the public (The projection booth is still intact) Buster Keaton shot his wild film "Sherlock Jr." here, and the Beachwood Players, including Orson Welles, once performed here. The building was bought by the Theosophical Society in the 1950s. They had been constructing a utopian community known as "Krotona" a few blocks away in Beachwood Canyon in the 1920s and 1930s, from which some buildings still remain today. Aldous Huxley, Manly P. Hall, and many other metaphysical lecturers have spoken here, which is the purpose it retains today.
